How to Properly Repair Broken Gypcrete?

 PROCEDURES

1.  Remove floor covering over broken-up areas.

2.  To help keep dust to a minimum, wet area to be removed with water at approximately 2 gal. (7.57L) per sheet of plywood. Let soak for 10-12 minutes, then remove broken Maxxon Underlayment.

CAUTION: Hammering or pounding out the gypsum product can cause it to lose bond far beyond the broken area.

If dust is not a problem, a circular saw with a masonry blade may be used to cut the perimeter of the underlayment to be removed. Set blade depth 1/32″ (.79 mm) deeper than the gypsum underlayment.

3.  Inspect the plywood, either remove and replace, or reinforce plywood subfloor. Replace plywood if delaminated or if broken plies exist.

Optional: To reinforce, staple or nail galvanized diamond metal lath.

4.  Spray or brush the Floor Primer over the plywood at the rate of 300 ft2 /gal.. (27.87m2/L)

5.  Mix and pour out the gypsum underlayment mix onto the plywood, float or trowel to a smooth surface to meet the existing gypsum underlayment height.

6.  Material should set within a few hours.

7.  The gypsum underlayment must be completely dry before replacing floor goods.

Electric Radiant Heating

The Infloor electric radiant cable heating system is the easiest method of incorporating radiant heating into any new construction or renovation project. Infloor electric radiant cables provide efficient, warm floor heating and are available in our Standard 25-year warranty, 120v/240v electric cable or our new Heavy Duty 30-year warranty, 240v cable, both of which may be installed over concrete or wood subfloor. The floor in the pictures is prepared for Gypcrete “Therma Floor”, a liquid self leveling gypcrete product designed especially for the higher heats associated with radiant heating products.

Gypcrete Surface Preparation:

All wood subfloors must be structurally sound, thoroughly clean (use vacuum or broom), dry, and free from mud, wax, grease, oil and other contaminants and fill cracks with a crack filler. Gypcrete will not correct or compensate for a structurally defective substrate. If there is any movement in your wood floor that may cause concern about bonding of the Gypcrete to the subfloor material, staple 2.5 pound metal lath to floor as reinforcement prior to pouring Gypcrete.

D u r a – C a p ® F l o o r Underlayment (commonly known as “Gypcrete”) is a nonstructural gypsum concrete used with aggregates in pouring crack resistant, fire resistant and sound-insulating floors. Batch mixed on the job, barrel mixed or pumped into place by authorized applicators, it is ideal over veneer and non-veneer wood subfloor panels, precast concrete and cast-in-place concrete. With proper preparation, Dura-Cap® Floor Underlayment (Gypcrete) can accept virtually any type of flooring material.
